The City Council has been furnished with a return of the cost of administering the hospital and charitable institutions in each district of the colony. It shows that for Auckland the expenditure in 1883 was £19,115 5s 3d, as against £17,182 Os 10d or the previous year—the cost per head of tiie population imssc 4s 9d for 1888.
