A GHASTLY RELIC OF THE SEA.
As the s.s. Planet was returning from Tiri Tiri Island with an excursion yesterday evening tho master, Mr Henry Marriott noticed, when near to die west side o> Rangitoto, that a white signal was flying. Ho at onco dropped anchor, and went off in a boat to the signal, and found a boy named Prank Blakey, who stated that he resides with his parents in Upper Nelson-street. The boy explained that he had gone: with a Sunday school picnic to DYiinTien Bay and had wandered away from Itis friends. The boy was taken on board the Planet and brought Up to Auckland. He had with him a human ektill in a good state" of preservation. Ho said that he had picked up tbo skull an tho north-west side of Rangitoto Island. He also said that a thigh bone was lying alongside the skull. The skull was handed over to the nolice. It is thought that it may belong to the body of Mr R. J. JDebney, who was drowned oft Rangitoto on the 2Gth of December last, by the capsizing oi the va?hfc Truant) , ' It appears that the lad Blakey was missed before the Scotchman left Drunken Bay and four men wore left behind to look for bim. When the lad arrived home, his trionds sent down a yacht to bring back the aearcb party. ___™_«^ ra »^—
