WAIUKU.

Waiuku village presented an unusually animated appearance on Saturday last, aa it was the meeting place for a football match between teams from Awitu and Pukekohe

also the day for Messrs A. Buckland and Sons' monthly sale.

The sale yards were well filled with Cattle, and the most of them were sold, which is evidence that the prices were something near, if not'quite up to the sellers' expectations. After disposing of the cattle, horses, etc., some household furniture and pictures, etc., belonging to Mr Pyle were brought under the hammer. Mr Pyle is leaving this district after a residence of abouo five or six years, having sold his farm to Mr Vaughan, of the North Shore, who takes possession to-day. The football match between Awitu and Pukekohe came off* in spite of the rain, which continued falling all the afternoon, and resulted in sundry.;bruises, etc., one man being stretched out insensible fop several minutes. A victory for. Awitu, three points to nothing, was recorded. A, •-■' The s.s. Manukau arrived during the day with a number of passengers, and an un« usually large cargo, principally bonedust. "A Tramp,-Esq.,''of the " Weekly News,'^ thinks that ft says little for Waiuku that so much bonedust is imported ; but there in. another way of looking at it, and that is that our settlers must be fairly well off te be able to afford to buy this same bone* dust.
