AMONgsT the through passengers to Sydney f r om San Francisco by the R.M.S. Alameda is Mr J. J. Miller, the well, known .Victorian turfite. ■ Mr. Miller; is returning from America, bringing with him three splendid specimens- of horseflesh, which ho is importing for the purpose o ( f improving the breed and stamina of th,e Victorian trotters. The animal 3in question comprise a standard - bred trotting stallion, Red Wind,who was sired by the well-known stallion, Red Wilks (Red Wind is a handsome.4-year-old dark bay) ; and two thoroughbred trotting fillies, massively framed," and all over quality, and representing the most successful and fashionable trotting strains in America. Tho horso waa selected by first-class judges and; purchased at a large cost for Mr J. J. Miller, whose desire is to do Australia some service in this really useful class of stock. Tho fillios are named Lucretia and Red Rose. Lucretia is by Memorandum Junior from Grey Fan, and is,a fine upstanding bit of blood, promising great things in the future. Red Rose, an equally handsome arrival, is by lied Wilks, first dam by Reed's Abdallah. She ienow with foal to Wilton. Mr Miller is taking the animal to his fine stud farm at'Bayswater, Scoreyby, Victoria, and has high expectations of greatly improving Victorian trotting stock by his enterprise. Ho informs us that his purchase will have cost him something like £3000 by the time he has them safely landed at Melbourne. We wish Mr Miller good luck in his venture. Wo would also acknowledge the receipt from him of. a copy of "J. J. Miller's Sporting Pamphlet and Official Trotting Record," a little work invaluable to sporting men.
