TREATMENT OF REFRACTORY ORES.

Wellington, this day. ..,;.. The Government have received a letter from the Agent-General with reference ; to his inquiries into the beat method of treating refractory ores. Sir Francis D. r ßoll states he is in comijaunication with several high aufchoritieson metallurgy. Dr. Percy, President of the Irou and Steel Institute, has given him much information and will gladly give every possible assistance. Dr r; Percy's idea is that the information which the Government really want on tho subject canbeobtained in America, and hohas'given the Agent-General letters of introduction to metallurgists there Whose processes have; been moat successful The Agei\t-General purposed visiting Frieberg in a few days trom the' date on wliich ho wrote (July 26th), »yhero he hoped to collect useful information. In conclusion the Agent-General remarks that as Mr Parkes; of the Parkes Gold and Silver Ore Smelting Company is now in New Zealand, where the(process:he^invented is being tried, he presumes that gentleman has submitted debaila of the process to^^ the Government. 1 "
