MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

The declarations of the result of the polling at the various elections of councillor 131 for the vacancies in the city and suburban Borough Councils were made shortly after,, six o'clock last evening. The polling, which during the day had been rather j slack, became very brisk between five and ' six o'clock, the elections closing at the | latter hour. The following are the results: ] AUCKLAND CITY. East Ward.—37l voted and 988 votes j were recorded as follows : —John Grey,! i 586; E. Ellingham, 397; informal, ,5; majority for Grey, 189. r Rarangahape JVard.-— Considerable interest was taken in this election; and the result as announced by the substitute returning office^ Mr F, W. PARNELL. ,; , ' A large crowd assembled to hear the result of tho poll* which was declared by the Returning Officer within a short time after the polling closed.
