HARBOUR BOARD MEETING.

There -were present at the ordinary forfc" nightly meeting of the Harbour Board, held yesterday afternoon : Messrs M; Niccol (in *he chair), T. Henderson, Button, A. E # Devore, 0. B. Stone, Holland, Dignani Buchanan, D. H. McKeime, arid J. McOosh Clarke. In addition to that reported in last evening's issue, the following business was transacted. ,". Frozen Meat Company.—The Secretary of the New Zealand Frozen Meat Company wrote asking for the written views and wishes of the Board in connection with the property belonging to; Mr James Farmer, purchased by the Company, the City Council, and the Harbour Board. It appeared that the property had not been put up to auction as arranged by the tripatite agreement entered into by the three bodies.—lt was decided that the Board consent to the postponement of this property until a more seasonable time. Reports.—The reports of the Works and Tariff and the Legal and Finance Committees were adopted. ' Harbour Charges.—ln respect to the letter of the Secretary of the Sugar Company, asking for a rebatement of wharfage - charges on coke, it was decided that the Bequest couid not be acceeded to. Regarding Mr Geo. Holdship's letter, asking'for the port charges on timber to be struck off, it was decided to refer the matter to the Works and Tariff Committee to pee what concessions would be made, Mr Holdsbip to be consulted.—The Secretary informed the Board that instead of the charge on the timber being 6d per 100 feet as asserted by Mr Holdslnp, it only amounted to about) 3£d per 100 feet. Leave ok Absence was granted to Mr E. W.1 Burgess for a month, he intending to visit Sydney and Melbourne early in October next.' * Foreman of Works' Report.—-This report, a lengthy one, dealt with the various works in progress. Two items, one as to repairs to the outer western tee, and to dredging round the sewer, were referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, and the remainder adopted. Birkknksad Wharf.—The 'following tenders for the additions to this work were received, the estimate being £500 :—George Niccol, £477 13s ; Hay wood and Martin, £509 4s 6d; Richard Whiton, £402 9s 8d; John Mercer, £404 15s. The tender of Mr Mercer was accepted, and that of Mr Niccol retained. . Caisson Contract.—A letter was received from Mr 3. Darling stating that the dispute between the Board arid their contractors ! for the caisson of Calliope Dock, 'Messrs | Head, Wrightson, and Co., had been subi mitted to arbitration, and the award had gone against the Board : Report received . Statement of Funds.—General account: Balance in Bank, £5,964 18s lid, cash on hand, £40 16a 5d—£6,005 15s: 4d; By accounts to be paid as above, £1,097 4s 8d (less already paid, £10 5s 6d)—£1,086 19s ■3d-; Balance (cr.), £4,918 16s 2d. "Loan account, No. .2: Balance in bank (cr.), £314 10s Bd. Loan account, No. 3; Balance in bank, £4;360, 9s 3d, accounts for payment, £197—Balance (cr.), £4,163'9s 9d. Cash on deposit, £33,000. Breach of Board Bye-Laws.—Aletter i ; was read from Messrs Russell arid Campbell ■ intimating that Inspector Broham would instruct the Water Police' to prosecute offenders against the Board's bye-laws, and enclosing an authority from the Board for Sergeant Clarke to receive the required signature arid seal. It was decided to give the required authority for the seaL ~ Weighbridge.—Two tenders ibr the pur-1 chase of the weighbridge were received. ; Oi*ie was from Messrs Masefield & Co., for i £I,s, enclosing the cash; and the . other; frot-Xi^fr Nelson, for £25, bub no cash was ,„ enclosed,, as required. It was decided to give iW Nelson to 10 o'clock this morning ■ to pay the money, failing that the other tender td be accepted. ' ■ Shoai> Kay Roads. —^The following communication .from Mr Dinsdale, Town Clerk of the Borough of|Devonport, was received : "At a meeting of the Devonporb Borough Council, held on the 20th met., I was requested to submit the following amended proposal, subject to which the Council will consent to tho dedication of ■ the boundary; roads in Shoal Bay—That the Council will consent to the dedication , of roads in Shoal Bay, as shown, on accompanying plan on the following conditions :—(l) That the Harbour Board conveys to this Council the portions of land tinted pink on the plan, viz., about 22J" acres on the north-eastern end of Awamp, and about 2^ acres on the eastern corner. (2) That the proposed rna.Hs through the centre of the swWV aro abandoned. (3) That the Harbov'M: Board eranb sufficient land for widening ake ■Road' as to* Provid9 anpS .to^new road if required 4.
