Whllixcton, Saturday. The Wellington Steeplechase Meeting to^ day was attended by about 2,000 persons. The weather was splendid, and the course in capital enter. Tho concluding events resulted :— Wellington Steeplechase, of 150sovs. Three miles. Mr Leopold's b g Kangaroo, aged, lOst 101b (Bell)... 1 Mr J. B. Williamson's br g Artist, aged, 9st 21b (Hadfield) 2 Mr Ellingham's b in Denbigh, aged, lOsb (Redmond) ••■ 3 Chemist and Waitangi also start' d. At th® fall of the flag Artist went off with the lead, followed by Kangaroo and ChemistAb the post - and - roil fence all tho horsen cleared it pretty well together. At the next jump Artist increased his lead, with tho others in about the *.ame position. The high gorse and rail fence w»a cleaved splendidly, bul; the first water jump, was tuo much for Waitangi, who unseated his jocicey. The other.horses kept probty wqll 'the same position uutil reaching the post-and-rail fence, when Kangaroo began to close on the leader. The second water jump was cleared by the four howes, Waitangi having pulled up. The sod fence was cleared first by Artist, then^ came Kangaroo, Denbigh, and Chemist. At the high gorae and rail fence the second time Kangaroo was just on Artist's heels. The water jump was cleared by both in the same stride.- Denbigh and Chemist came over about ten lengths behind. At the post-and-rail Kangaroo collared Artist, and won a splendid race by three lengths, with Denbigh close up third. Chemist was last. Time, 7min 2sec. Dividend, £ 5 Is. Selling Huedle, of 40sovs. One and threequarter miles.
