HARBOUR BOARD.

|At the Harbour Board meeting yesterday afternoon, the Engineer submitted a plan showing the area where dredging operations had been going on at No. 2 jetty. During June, dredger No. 121 hod lifted and carried to sea 43 loads of mud, equal to 17,200 cubic yards, and the Pries-man's dredger had lifted and deposited in punts 2,800 cubic yards.—Representations were mado by eight mercantile firms that excessive charges were made for export wharfage on wool shipped at this port, and a request was made that some reduction of the same should be made. Under the old scale of fees the wharfage on wool was Is per ton, but they were now called upon to pay 6d per bale, about equal to 2s 6d per ton, which, considering the low prices ruling, was a rather heavy item. It was resolved to inform Messrs Ireland Bros., Sutherland, and others that the Board regret that they cannot make any reduction ; and that T. H. Smith be informed that the Board had made other arrangements for the supply of totara piles, owing to terms of contract not having been complied with.—-A request for reduction of watermen's licenses was declined. —Letters from A. Tracey, re advertising on wharves, were referred to the Works Committee, and fromHawyardandMartinre western teecontract, referred to the Finance Committee with power to act, the Foreman of Works to report.—Tho recommendations of the Finance Committee and Works, and Tariff Committee were adopted with the exception of a clause re Mr Oldham's retaining wall, which was referred back.—On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved : " That the resolution of the Board, dated 17fch April, dispensing with the services of Mr McGregor as Engineer of the Board be adhered to, and that all works from this date be carrien out by the Foreman of Works (MiTaylor)."—Applications for the position of engineer for Dredger No. 121 were received from Messrs T. R. Wallace, Mclntyre, W. C. F. Richardson, Wm. Slater, A. J. Parke, D. McAffir, J. Looky. The last was appointed. — The Chairman moved : " That the names of Messrs M. Niccol and A. Kidd be placed upon the Finance and Legal Committee," and this was agreed to.
