CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE
The usual meeting of this body was -held last evening in bhe school-room, Wellesleysbreeb Easb. Presenb : Messrs Gorrie (Chair* man), Blades, Crowbher, Ussher, and Far re 11.
School Prosecutions.—lb was resolved to granb exemption to bhe child of Mr Hugall, as ib was now abbending bhe Convenb School in Hobson-sbreeb. Mr Crowbher said bhat bhe Commibtee merely wished to have bhe children attend some school.
Correspondence.—The letters received were read and dealb with as follows: — From Dr. Purchas, forwarding certificate that Miss Steele was unable to see owing to the enlargement of her pupils, bub would be fib to attend next Monday. Lebter received. —From Mr Harb, stating he saw no reason why the Board should assist Mrs Buick. Resolved that the application be declined accordingly. The motion was adopted.—From Mr Cronin, head teacher of Nelson-street School, asking the Committee to attend a concert in bhe school nexb Thursday evening. Resolved bhab bhe letber be received wibh thanks.— From Miss W resbwood, asking permission, on behalf of the staff of the Nelson-streeb School, bo hold a social in bhe Training College nexb Friday. Mr Blades suggested that they should pay for their own gas. Mr Farrell said bhat the gas bill would nob amounb to four whiskies. Resolved that permission be granted. The members of the Committeeand wives were invited toattend— From Mr Harrison, asking that trees should be planted in the Beresford-streeb School ground. Referred to Messrs Crowther and Farrell to confer with the head-master and report.,—Mr Farrell's motion re raising the school age was withdrawn. An amount of unimportant business was also dealb with, after which the Committee adjourned.
