POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.

Drunkenness. —One first offender was fined 5s and costs, or 24 hours in default.
Breaking and Entering.—Jamesßlooinfield was charged with breaking and entering the premises of James Caritmill at Auckland on the 3rd of March.—Sergeant-Major Pratt said that as the man had only recently been arrested and it was some time since the offence had been committed, he must apply for a remand until next Monday.— The remand was granted.
Breach of By - Laws.—John James pleaded guilty to leaving a cart unattended on the public road, Devonport.—The defendant said that the wheel of the dray broke and he was unable to shift the dray by himself. —Constable O'Brien deposed that the dray had been left without a light. —His Worship inflicted a lineofssandcosts. Affiliation Case.—Albert Culter was charged -with failing to provide for the support of an illegitimate child.:—He pleaded not guilty.—Mr Clendon appeared on. behalf of the mother of the child.—Mr W. Buckland said he appeared for the defendant. He asked for an adjournment, as he was prepared to call evidence to show that his client was not really the person interested in the child.—Mr Clendon opposed the adjournment, as the defendant had told complainant, "If you don't summons me very quickly I shall clear out."—His Worship said that as the notice was evidently very short he would adjourn the case for a week, the defendant to give surety himself in £40 land to obtain two other sureties of. £25 'each that ho would be in, attendance,
