THE ENGLISHMEN'S PLAY.
(FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT),
Wellington, this day.
The Englishmen displayed better form in their match yesterday than on Saturday, and this was particularly the case with their backs, who had little or no show in the previous match. The back play was fast and brilliant, and besides some smart speeling their punting and drop-kicking was exceptionally good. This was noticeably the case with their full back. Taking their play generally, I am satisfied that if the Auckland men play a fast open game, charge instantly when passing is attempted, and watch the screwing of the scrums and the fast throw in when the ball goes into touch, they have nothing to fear, and that the odds are in Auckland's favour.
