Accord. ing to Drew's version of. the affair Edwards was about to fire a'third shot when, he struck his hand up and the arrival of Constable Killury put a stop to the proceedings, On arrival at the watch-house Edwards was locked up on a charge of shooting at Drew with intent to inflict upon him grievous bodily harm. The prisoner appears to have been drinking a good deal of late, and seems to have entertained a suspicion, which Drew states is perfectly groundless, that the latter was guilty of improper behaviour with his (the prisoner's) wife. .Drew had been lodging in the bouse for about three weeks, and says that no reason whatever existed for Edwards's conduct.
