HEAVY FALL OF RAIN.
For the last 48 hours the downpour of rain in the vicinity of Auckland has been unusually heavy. Mr F. T. Chceseman curator of the Museum, states that for the 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. this morning the fall was 1\ inches, while for the previous 24 hours it was \\ inches, making a total for the 48 hours 3 and !£ inches. The v^stness of the rainfall may perhaps be better estimated from the fact that this return would give a total of 375 tons of water deposited upon every acre within the area that the downpour reached, which, by the way, was pretty wide spread. If the total acreage covered could be estimated and that "multiplied by 375, the total weight of water deposited in the 48 hours would appear simply incredible. As it is the downpour has been heavisr than any recorded for 48 hours during the last five years.
