THE BATTERY, TE AEOHA.

At the battery twenty head of stampers art: engaged in reducingquartzfrom the New Find portion of the Company's property, which is shaping for a payable return. Tho roasting furnace is kept going night and day on New Find tailings. Fifty-six berdans in the tailings plant are also keDt steadily g'ing on new tailings from thts tame mine.

New Find. — The 450 feet lowl, now beintr driven in the Canadian ground, bo cut the New Find reef, is being pushed uhead, and the country the cross-cut is passing through is of a very promising character. The quartz coming to grass from the stopes where Maiyey arid party (contractor!-) ;>re at work is now being put through the battery, and, as already stated, is shaping for a payable return. The winze ihat is now being sunk on the reef shows gold every breaking down, and the lode in each winze is of a very kindly nature.

Silver King.—Contracts were let on Monday last for putting in two drives and binking a.winze to connect with the surface from the junction of these drives ; and the contractors have commenced work.

Colonist.—ln the Colonist mine, where the recent new discovery of refractory ore was made, the reef in Hero portion of the ground (where this refractory ore was was found), is being opened up, four men being steadily engaged on the work, and the appearance of the reef is very promising. Prospecting — Prospecting operations are being steadily carried on in various portions of tlie Te Arolia S. and G. M. Co.'s property by a number of experienced miners, Mr J. Goldsworihy having the saperintendauce of the principal party.
