LOVED A MAIDEN.
I loved a maiden wondrous fair. With bright blue and golden hairy No maid that can with her compare Claims mortal mother; 'Tis vain to search the earthly sphere For such another. She bloomed, as roses bloom in spring, When nature's joy is on the win.?, And thousand happy warblers sing I n. woodland bowers ; > To be my queen—to be her king— 01 happy hours. Gay Spring glides on to Summer fast, And Summer, too, is quickly past, Tho roses fade before the blast When Autumn leaves Fall withered, and by storms are cast 'Moiig harvest sheaves. But o'er her Spring: them passed a storm, While yet Life's liiorning sun shone warm, Which did dire Winter's work perform, And laid her low. The Spoiler made her angel form Like frigid suow. And now T wander on alone; AH earthly joy for me is aone, All earthly joy save Hope's bright sun; Its glorious beam Still smiles, tho' faint, and cheers me on Through Lue's drear dream. M. Monstedt,
