AMY BOCK'S CASE.

NOT A KLEPTOMANIAC. (by telegraph—own correspondent. ) Wellington, this day. The "Evening Press" loams that as soon as the attention of Ministers was drawn to the case of Amy Bock, the young woman who was recently convicted of larceny at Dnnedin, and who at one time-resided in Auckland, and regarding whom some strange and sad particulars were published, they caused inquiries to be made. The Colonial Secretary most kindly interested himself personally in the matter, and communicated with his colleague, the Minister of Justice, at JDunedin, who displayed equal promptitude and humanity with a view to the release of th?> prisoner if circumstances should warrant it. The "Press" is informed, however, cha,t the result of the" Ministers' inquiries are far from favourable to the plea of uncontrollable maniqi which was set up by the young woman. It has been ascertained that she has defrauded many people atDunedin by her artful impostures, and that she still has a quantity of stolen property concealed which she will not restore or give any information about. Several good Samaritansin Dunedin, who are' well acquainted with the case, and. who have concerned themselves regarding iti have been consulted, and they, all agree that nothing can be done for her. It stands to reason it would be trifling with justice to release a prisonerwhoiscunning enough to simulate insanity, or'where proof of prlminal. intent and 'criminal purpose is, convincing, ana in

this instance there is the additional objection to such a course that it would probably be playing into the hands of a practised thief who has accomplices not in custody.
