CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTED.

The ' usual fortnightly meeting of the City Schools Committee was held last evening in the Wollesley-street East School. Present : Messrs W. Gorrie (Chairman), Crowther, Farrell, Blades, McMaster, Batley, U ctKRESPOSDEKCE.-The letters received were read and • dealt with as follows:From the Board of Education, notifying that Mies Ward had been appointed to the Napier-street School ; also stating that the Board had decided to advertise for a first assistant, master for Napfer-street School: The letters were received.-It was also decided to forwaid a cheque for £20 to the Board, as as a contribution towards painting the B chools.-From Mr Hart, asking permission to use the Nelson-street School for a social on Wednesday night: Resolved that the requestbe Mr S. A. Jones, asking for one week's leave, of absence on account of indisposition : Granted - From Mr E. M. C. Harrison, applying for disinfectants for the Beresford-atreet School: Granted.-From the Secretary of the Auckland Society of Arts, asking permission to hold their exhibition of mechanical drawing in the Wellesley-streefc School on Saturday 7th of April: Granted.-From Miss Maud Nicholson, applying for extended leave of absence, without salary, on account 01 illness : Resolved that, in the interest of the school, the Committee cannot see thenway to comply with the request, and regret that her health was not improved. N6LSO>--STREr/r School.—A letter was received from the Board of Education forwarding the following list of applicants for the position of head-master of the Nelsonstreet School:—Messrs W. H. Arnold, Harold P. Burfc, Charles M. Carter, Thos. H. Chapman, B. Cronin, Robt. C. Dwyer, Neil Heath, Arthur Home, Win. Malcolm, Win. Murray, Dennis O'Donoghue, David Schofield, John L. Scott, Thomas B. Tanner, George Thwaites, and Alfred S. Webber.— The Chairman said that in coneequence ot the holidays the meeting of the Board of Education would be held to-morrow, sq that ho thought that it would be advisable to consider the matter and send in a recon> jnendation to the Board forthwith : It was decided to first select seven out of the candidates. This was done by ballot, and the following gentlemen were chosen :— Messrs Croonin, O'Donoghue, Malcolm, Arnold, Heath, Murray, and Thwaites. The testimonials of these candidates were then sidered at some length, after which further ballots were taken, when Mr Cronin wag selected for recommendation, and Mr O'Donoghue secured second place.—Other minor matters were also decided, afte.r which the meeting adjourned.
