POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.

(Before H. G. Seth Smith, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. —Two persons were punished for ordinary offences of this kind.—Luther Martin pleaded guilty to the charge of being an habitual drunkard, but denied that he had been thrice convicted during the last three months. — Ifc appeared, however, from the evidence of Constable Carroll that he was convicted of separate offences on three successive days only a fortnight ago, and was only discharged from Mount Eden after the third sentence yesterday. He was cent to gaol for one month with hard labour.

Larceny.—George Cassell pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of boots, valued 12s 6d, the property of HenryGrook. Sergeant Pratt said the prisoner's employer was in Court, and was willing to take the accused back if he was discharged. The boots were stolen from a lodger in a Kutland-street boardinghouse. The case was remanded till Tuesday, in order that the Probation Officer might bring up areporfc. Bail was allowed, himself in £20 and two sureties of £10 each.

Alleged Assault.—Charges of assault and non-maintenance preferred against Benjamin Keetes by his wife were struck out on the application of Mr Cotter, who said an arrangement had been come to between the parties. — Sarah Home was charged with wilfully breaking a pane of glass, value Is, the property of Mr Hellaby, and pleaded guilty. Soi-geant Pratt said she went into the back of Hellaby's premises in company with a man named Driscoll, and they were put out. Home took up a stone, and threw it at the window. —Fined 10s and costs and ordered to pay the damage, or in default seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. Maintenance.—A case against Elias Andrews for wife desertion was partially heard, and was then adjourned till Tuesday for further evidence. Mr Speed appeared for complainant.
