AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB'S SPORTS.
The Auckland Amateur Athletic Club arc this afternoon holding their sixteenth Athletic Carnival on the Domain Cricket Ground. Blessed with fino weather, in spite of the counter - attractions of the Races at Ellerslie thore is a very large attendance of spectators, the numbur of ladies being particularly noticeable. The ground looked in tine order, and a marked improvement was noticeable in the fact that for each of tho short distance races tapes were Inid down for tho competitors to run between, thus doing away with the possibility of any blocking or jostling ; also a board on which the numbers of the winners were hoisted as soon a« the race was finished. The first race ntai ted at 2 p.m. sharp. The following are the results so far :—
150 Yards Maidk.v.— The starters were— Seccombe, P. Mackie, W. Clayton, Uplill, Chappell, L. Meldrum, Colebourne, and Cummings, and the result was— Uphill, 1; P. Mackio, 1; L. Meldrum, 3. Time, 16|«ec. A fine race; Mackie made a bad start, while Uptill got away very quick, and won easily. Onk Milk Novice Bicycle.
Starters : Handyside, scratch ; W. Johnson, 10yds; S. Hunter, 30yds; Spencer, 40yds ; E. Glcdhill, 60yds ; H. Hammond, 70yds; Grango, 90yds. Handyside, 1 ; Glcdhill, 2; Johnson, 3. Time, 3min. Handyside took the lead in the third hip and won as ho liked. A eood race foe third place between Johnson and Hunter. The three others close up for last place. 100 Yards Handicap.—Fsrst heat; starters: W. T. Wynard, scratch; B. Owen, 2yds ; W. Donovan, 4yds; C. Maude, 4yds ; Upfill, 7yds ; Major, 12yds ; Cummary, 6yds. Upfill, (7vds), 1 ; Major (12yds); Owen (2yds), 3. Time : Won easily.
Wanoaxpi, this day. The sale of Westmere Estate today brought a large number of investors togather. Including the section sold privately after auction was over, 676 acres were disposed of for £8,307 11s 6d, or an average of about £12s 6s per acre.
