A DISORDERLY HOUSE
THE FEMALE OCCUPANTS SENT
TO PRISON,
Last evening the police made a raid on a disorderly house kept by a woman named Sophie Pearson in Pitt-street, otherwise a very respectable locality, and arrested three of the inmates, namely, Emily Been, alia 3 Hawkes, Dorothy Harkins, and Sophie Pearson. They woro lodged in the Police Station and brought before Mr H. C. Baddeley, R. M., at the Police Court this morning. Sophie Pearson wascharged Avibh being the occupier of a house frequented by persons who had no lawful visible means of suppoi'j,and Been and Harkins were charged with having no lawful visible means of support. The prisoners pleaded s;uilty. Sergeant Pratt stated that 'carson was the occupier of a house of disorderly character in Pitt - sfcreeb, and she was the cause of a disgusting row which took place there yesterday. Last night Detective Hughes and several others of bhe police force wenb inbo the house and arrested this woman and two other girls. Detective Hughes stated that yesterday the three girls occupying the house had a row, and Pearson pitched Been and Harkins off the premises. Been and Harkins came to the Police Station bleeding from bites and cuts on their hands and arms, and stated that they had been wounded in a fight wibh Sophie Pearson, who bib bhem and put them out of the house. The prisoners were disorderly characters, and the house was frequented by larrikins and other persons of' bad character. His Worship fined Been 20s and costs, or 48 hours,'for drunkenness, and ordered three months' imprisonment with hard labour for having no visible means, this prisoner having been twice previously convicted of drunkenness. Harkins and Pearson were also sentenced to three months' hard labour, His Worship remarking that ib was a pity the latter could not have a longer sentence, as she was tho principal offender, and the cause of the disturbance that took place yesterday.
