OPENING OF THE BOWING SEASON.
The weather on Saturday proved almost too bad for the Rowing Association to open the season with tho customary procession of boats. However, all tho clubs turned up in their whaleboats, and the Ponsonby and Auckland Naval cutters also appeared. The following Clubs were represented :— North Shore, Waitemata, St. George's, City, Ponsonby, 2 whaleboats each, nnd tho West End, one. They all mustered off the Railway Wharf, and formed in single file led by the Auckland navals, Ponsonby navals second, and the clubs in the order of the seniority. From the Railway Wharf they proceeded, in single tile, up as far as the hulk Neptune, and after rounding her formed all abreast and rowed to the Railway Wharf; this was repeated again when approaching tho Queenstreet Wharf. In the return all the crews started racing, and had a spurt as far as bhe Railway Wharf, where bhey dispersed. Men abtempbing bo bring their string tests over to take parb in the opening of the North Shore Rowing Club had one of them smashed, the back being completely broken, while two others were swamped.
