THE LAND TAX QUESTION IN QUEENSLAND.

In the Legislative Assembly to-day, the Premier, in notifying the House of the vacant seats in the Cabinet, said that a majority in Parliament was against the land proposals of the Government; but, at the same time, the members had affirmed that the Ministry should remain in office, though it was an anomaly for a Ministry to be called upon to retain the confidence of a House which was unwilling to give effect to its policy. The Government, he said, would, therefore, Jot press forward its land proposals this session. The leader of the OppoMtion approved of an appeal to the country, which the Premier declared the Government would accept. Among the Premier's forecasts for the session, be. jounced that a Bill for the administration of New Guinea would be Proceeded with as soon as the Government had received an answer from the mmk Wales Government as to Jether it adhered to its previous tonn as sent.
