Dated this 31st day of August, 1887. T>ONSONBY ELECTORATE. MR. E. COOPER will Address the Electors at the Ponsonby Hall on MONDAY EVENING, sth September, at 8 p.m. mO THE EDEN ELECTORS. Gentlemen, In reply to false reports and statemenls which I find are being industriously circulated amongst the Eden Electors, I beg most dis" tinctly to say :— 1. That I have no connection whatever with any land rings in Otago, and that my interest in land in that provincial district consists merely of some ten acres of highly improved suburban land upon which my late residence was built, and which I have been and am desirous to quit and dispose of. 2. That in coming to Auckland it was and is my full intention to remain here with my family for the rest of my life. 3. That no politicians, land owners, capitalists, or other person, or persons whatsoever in Otago, have agreed to contribute, or been asked to contribute, a single farthing to the expenses of my election, these expenses being borne by myself alone. 4. That no person whatever in Otago was even aware of my intention to contest a seat in Parliament, until I issued my address to tho Eden electors, previous to which no person in the Colony, excepting the Eden electors, asked, or suggested that I should stand for Parliament. 5. That the motive which alone induced me to seek election, was my personal desire to take part in the public affairs of the Colony, with the intention of faithfully and efficiently serving the Colony and the constituency for which I stand and in which I have resided for two years_ 6. That if elected I go to Wellington as a North Island representative, and should the interests of Otago or the South Island be at any time in question as against those of the North Island,l shall esteem it my duty to contend to the utmost of my ability for the interests of that part of the colony of which I should in such a case consider myself the special representative of the North Island. Permit me, gentlemen, in conclusion, to say that I rely confident'y upon your intelligence to judge me fairly, and that as a result you Avill place me at the head of the poll by an overwhelming majority. Yours, faithfully, J. AITKEN CONNELL. JJ C> T? I C~ E. Impounded in the City Pound, September Ist, 1 Bay Pony; white near hind foot.
