Carlton v. Ellerslie.
These teams met at Ellerslie on Saturday last. Owino- tp the meeting at Plumpton Park.the home team found themselves minus two or three of their regular players, whose places they had to fill, to some extent, with scratch men. Half-time was called without either side having scored. In the second spell Perring secured the ball and shot it under the tape, thus scoring No. 1 fioal for the visitors. The ball was once more centred and kicked of! by Ellerslie, only tj be returned by Carlton forwards, and three minutes from time of last score Sanderson made a successful shot and added No. 2 goal to the list, On the ball bern<r cmtred and krcked oft, Ellerslie was kept well down by the Carlton forwards, who but for Lang and Somerfield would probably have scored. This result came ere long, Ryburn and Perring securing No. 3 goal by their combined efforts, and some time afterwards a fourth goal was obtained, the visitors thus winning by 4 goals to love. Notwithstanding the above result, great credit is clue to the Ellerslie team for the manner in which they played, especially for a scratch team.
