FIRE IN PARNELL.

At ten minuioa to 2 o'clock this afternoon, afire occurred fo York^breet, Parnell, in a two-storied building,, formerly the property of Captain Oakas. The building was unoccupied. The Fire Brigade under Captain Judge -was quickly in attendance, and with a good water supply they soon succeeded ift getting the flames under, but not until t&8 building in which the fire originated "WflS badly damaged. The adjoining premises were also considerably scorched.

The building was known as the Victoria Boarding - house, and belongs now to the Auckland Agricultural and Mercantile Company. Tho building has b«en unoccupied for some time past, and there was no mflans of ascertaining how the fire origi' nated. When the door was forced open after tho alarm was given, the flames were found blazing in a corner of the large room to the right hand of the main entrance from York street. The fire appears to have burned right through the ceiling and up to the roof, travelling along thence to the upper portion erf a one-storey building just up against the back of the boarding house. The alarm was very promptly responded to by the Para ell Fire Brigade, under Captain Judge, and the Auckland Salvage Corps, under Captain Field. The flames were extinguished before the building had been extensively gutted, and the damage should not exceed £150.

The building is insured in fche Norwich Union for £500.
