A Satisfactory Report

Notwithstanding the depressed state of affairs at the goldn'elds, it is interesting to observe that the Thames Gas Company have been very successful in their operations during the last twelve months. The annual meeting of the Company was held to-day, Mr C. B. Stone presiding. The annual report showed that after making provision for bad and doubtful debts, there remains a sum of £1,059 4s 6d available for division, whioh the directors recommended being appropriated as follows : —To payment of a dividend of Is 6d per share, which, with the interim dividend paid in March last, is equal to 8 per cent, per annum on the paid-up capital of the Company, leaving a balance of £310 11s 6d to be carried forward to new account. From the accounts, it appeared that the expenditure for the year had been £2,169 5s 4d, •md the revenue £3,783, made up of €3,453 from gas, £233 from residual products, and £96 from interest. The assets of the Company were stated at £21,270. The Chairman congratulated the share-; holders on the fact that in spite of the bad times they were declaring the same dividend as formerly, and at the same time carrying forward £310 11s 6d this year, against £220 12s lOd last year. Though there had been a falling off in the consumption of gas, the sale of products, such as coke and tar, had kept well up. The report was adopted on the motion of Mr W. S. Wilson, seconded by (Mr Butcher. Mr Howard was re-elected director, while Mr G. Fraser was re-ap-pointed auditor, on the motion of Mr Harker, seconded by Mr Howard. A donation of ten guineas to the funds of the S&M&6B Sohool of Mines was made on Mr WBSon'a motion, and Mr Howard having k^pres^ed his acknowledgments for re-elee-£«i>n the meeting terminated.
