Thames, this day,
Messrs James Me Andrew and Robert Comer were to-day nominated for vacant seats in South Ward of the Borough Council. The election takes place on Bth September.
Tauranga, this day.
Mrs C. S. Hill, of the London " Morning Post," arrived here on Saturday from Rotorua, and intends visiting the Gate Pah, Te Rangi, and all places of interest in the district in her capacity as correspondent. Mrs Hill, after doing Tauranga district, will proceed to Katikati, thence to the Thames, via Owharoa and Paerca.
At a special meeting of the Borough Council yesterday afternoon it was decided to give the engineer three months' notice,and do without one. The clerk's salary is to be reduced by £20, arid all other officers are to be proportionately reduced. Tauranga will then be one of the cheapest conducted and least taxed boroughs in the colony.

Times are now so dull in regard to litigation here that three lawyers are about to quit, and two more will probably follow. Their withdrawal will be Dome with complete fortitude.
