ARRIVAL OF THE RANGITIKEI.
The New Zealand Shipping Company's fine ship Rangitikei, which is very well known at this,.port, arrived from London this morning. She was towed into port by the &s:-Awhina, and having a quantity of explosives on board, anchored at the powder ground. When the Rangitikei was last at this port she was in charge of Captain Millman, and since then she has had several changes of masters, and she is at present in command of Captain Taylor, formerly chief officer of the ship Otaki. Mr Middleton occupies the position rof chief officer,, Mr McAllister is second officer and Mr Eraser third I officer. Captain Taylor reports having left London on May 3rd, cleared the Channel on the 10th, had fair' north-east trades* and crossed the equator en June' lsO, 29 days out.
Experienced moderate south-east trades, and rounded the Cape of Good Hope on the 55th day out. Had very good westerly winds as far as Leewin, and rounded Tasmania 79 days out. Had strong and light northerly winds thence to Cape Maria.which was passed at 8 p.m. on Monday last, and down the coast had southerly winds and fair 'weather. The Rangitikei dropped anchor at the powder ground at 12 noon, having completed the voyage from the dock to anchorage in 92 days.
