It was resolved at a meeting held yesterday afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce room that the citizens of Auckland should ''present Mn Superintendent Thomson with a testimonial on the occasion of his departure from this city to take charge of Wellington district, is A telegram was forwarded to the Hon. John Ballance, ras head of the Defence Department; inquiring whether any Objection 'would be offered to Mr; Thompson receiving ~a public presentation, and to-day the Minister has replied, stating that the acceptance of a testimonial by the respected Superintendent of Police would not bo objected to. In addition to the public movement there is another on foot among the members of the police force to present Mr Thomson with a parting token of esteem and it .is expected that all the men wftg ha,ve served und§r, him 1 will subscribe,
