Dunedin Central.
All sorts of rumours have been current dniing the last few days in reference to the Duneain Central seat. Ib is reported that Mr Curgill had joined the Protectionists, then that he had retired. He assures me there is no foundation tor either report, though there seems to be ground for believing that unless he can got his business fifliur.s settled, ho may not be able to oiler himself to any constituency. I beHevo there was a groat ruction at the meeting- of the Protection League Committee on Saturday. Mr iiutchinson's friends assert that the meeting at which fche League adopted Mr Hallonstien was held on a day when working , men could not attend. The Committee, by a majority of ono, decided not to interfere in the Central contest as an organisation. The proceedings arc reported to have been unusually lively at times.
