Timarv, this day. Last night word was received here from the telegraphist at Temuka tlwib a vessel firing signals of distress was off Milford. Captain Webster, Harbourmaster, with the Rocket Brigade, fltc, went off in the tug Titian afc 9.30, rofcvKning at 1 o'clock this morning. He reportH that there is no vessel about. The whole thing is a mistake or hoax, arid how it originated will probably be known in the course of the day. ___
