THE STEAMER RICHMOND AND THE SEAMEN S UNION.
On Saturdayevening, Mr Ellison, secretary of the Auckland Branch of tho Seamen's Union wired to tho Minister of Marino at Wellington as follows :—" Owners of the subsidised steamer Richmond are shipping Kanaka crew. What are the terms of agreement with your Government? Is it allowed ?" Mr Ellison also communicated with the head office of the Union at Dunedin, and received a reply that they also made representations to the Minister of Marine. Up to a lato hour this afternoon no reply had been received to the first telegram. Tho matter-is abo to be brought under the notice of the Trades and Labour Council aa soon as possible.
