SONG.

[Written for and suns; at supper tocelebrate the completion of the work of levelling Brentwood Common and making it into Eccreation Ground.] To-night we meet to celebrate ~ ~ A common cause, and one , Which somewhat puzzled us of febe; But now the work is done, In spite of jeers, and sneers, and chaff Since first we did begin, And so we meet to sing _nd laugh, For "let those laugh who win' ' : We sometimes worked quite late at night And in the early morn, By moonlight rays and candle light, At sunset and at dawn. - Pick-axes, barrows, spades, an. planks Were freely lent and brought By friends to whom our hearty thanks We tender, as we ought. You see we made a level ground Where cricket can be played/ For skaters, too, a lake is founi Of larger area made. . ,-,-.. For summer and for winter, too, We have provided thus;. The townsfolk see what we call do Without much brag or fuss. Who wonders, then, that we rejoice And speak of this with pride,. The chorus swell with lusty voice To echo far and wide?
