A circ-R lias been issued by the Council of in Schools Association of Otago;uiie\v of the approaching election, drawing I !attention tiie e ' ec,:ol ' s to the followingmsiderations :— I.—Thereat- majority of the parents througho-New Zealand are in favour of in the public 'schools, as shown hjyese facts: — (1) In reply to a circular ;sein 1881 to all the parents of the schoocllildren throughout Otago, 4,674, repnting over 11,000 children, declared ,'teeh'es in favour of, and 602, repricing 1.6Q0 children, were against Mer nearly eight to one. (2) In Si# Canterbury, ' after exact inquiry, thfras a still larger proportion —about ninb one. (3) In Nelson a personal canv&ias made, when it was found that nine-tei. of the people were opposed to the seeidiing-O- the Act. ll.—The exelusionlpte Bible from the Public Schools was in the first contrary to the desire of t&oSpple of the colony. The Education Biwhen originally introduced, contained a'else providing for the daily reading of |p__e in tho schools, which met with gefij approval, but by a surprise votethemse was struck out. 111. —During ffl-eiresaion since 1877, innumerable all parts of the colony have been preyed to Parliament, demanding the re-iiistijneiit of the original clause, but hitherto,'.jho.it avail.
