Janet Nicoll, there is published, the text of the treaty entered into- between' the "King of Samoa and the King of the Sandwich Islands, to.which reference has already been made .in' our columns. According to the journal' named, the ratification of the treaty ' was followed by a vigorous counter - demonstration on the part' of the Germans. The Vice-King, Tamasese, having been induced not to sign the treaty, the officers of the German warship Adler, ! theri in Apia Harbour, presented him, with ,a jnew; standard, closely resembling, the Royal Standard of; Germany. The uniurling of this banner was the for the firing,of .a royal,,salute from the ; guns of the Adler.
