FIRE INQUEST.

Timaru, this day. Ajt inquiry into the recenfe fire at Tiniart*. Woollen Factory was opened yesterday before Mr Beswick, coroner, and a jury. The enly. evidence taken was that of Thomas Lodge,lessee, and the inquiry was then ad journed. 'He said he and Gibbott,-his colleague, were last in the factory at seven o'clock on the night of the fire. He observed some smell of kerosene, but nothing special. There was a considerable amount of rent owing, but no wages. * The stock had been reduced by about £1,100, but while the insurance policy was only *'500, the loss was estimated at t1,028. ;
