WANGANUI NOTES.
(by telegraph—own correspondent.)
■ Wanganui, this day. Captain Somerville, of the New Zealand RifleTAs'sociatibh, informs me that General Whitmore expects to have the new repeating rifles here next month. They are of the type known as ReniingtdiT : Lee, with detachable magazine, and judging by the drawing sent out, are handsome weapons. The Borough Council last night voted the Mayor a salary of LIOO to meet the demands made on his purse by the recent jubilations, the cost of which the Council recognise should not fall upon the Mayor.
