MEMORANDA.
A concert is announced to be held in All Saints' Schoolroom, Ponsonby, tomorrow (Friday) evening. An attractive programme will be presented, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the pianoforte fund.
A great treat is in store for those who will be'present in St. Sepulchre's school-room this (Thursday) evening, whfeh, in addition
to a most attractive concert, there will be tlie famous trial scene of " Bardell v. Pickwick," in character. This bids fair to surpass any performance of this inimitable piece previously witnessed in the colony. The fair though somewhat mature plaintiff, and. the various witnesses, Winkle, Sam Weller, and Mrs Cluppins, •are worth all the entrance money to see; while as for Mrs Clup'pins's phenomenal and colossal bonnet, ifc is simply impiense. As the trial scene does not commence before about 9.15, those whose engagements may prevent them from being present at the concert might be able to attend the "Trial."
Mr Scharrer, proprietor of the " Can't B Beat" tobacco store, is again to the fore by. giving a five-pound prize to the, successful competitor forming the most words of the letters contained in the words "Can't B Beat Tobacco Box." This competition is highly instructive, and helps to pass long winter evenings; besides, Mr Seharrer Btates that this competition is opened in order to meet the times, and to give the " unemployed " a, show. All competitors liiust forward their list of words in alpha- ' oetical "■ order, and enclose ]s in stamps to the " Can't "■ tobacco stoi - e, Queenstreet. "Nor is this the only competition ..which. MrScharrer "has on .hand, for he has 'a Jubilee competition, of which particulars can be learned at his shop.; The latter is as easy as the bean-guessing competitions, and everyone who spends 5s at his store is ,r entitled to a chance of winning 150.
