•Ik connection with the movement on foot to send Win. Hearn, champion sculler of New Zealand, to Sydney, the following summary of his performances may prove of interest !to your readers:—Hearn started rowing at Hokitika in 1870, and won every race which ho entered for, winning eight in number up to 1874.. In March of that year he won the champion race at the Kaiapoi Regatta, beating all the best men in the colony. At Wellington in January, JS76, he won the sculling race for L 25. At the Interprovincial Regatta at Melbourne in 1579, he rowed and defeated Wing in a match for L 25 aside. Six weeks later he rowed Messenger for the championship of Victoria, bub was defeated. On the 9th of July, ISSI, he rowed and easily beat White for the championship of . the colony and LIOO a side, on Port Nicholson Harbour. In March, 18S2, he beat Messenger for the championship and LIOO on the same course. At Riyertbn, in January, 18S5, he beat Harrington for the championship. He won the Allcomers race at River ton, in April, 1887, beating four others for a prize of L7O. Hearn has won every local Wellington sculling match he has competed in.
