IP Pdpil Teachers' Examination. — A latistacallreturn re the pupil teachers'exanmtion of June-July, 18S7, showed that S males and 167 females presented themfeives for examination in Auckland, 5 males «nd 28 females at the Thames, and 6 males aJ'2o'females. at the Waikato : total, 258. '•' ! Night School.— A report Avas revived of.»the Conference of the Head?asfears;of town, schools re proposed free; night school. It stated that Major Dane .attended by invitation,~and gave an account of tEe working of the system of free night a&ocils ; iri America. — The Conference adopted the following suggestions for submission to the Board: — (1) The school to t be":: opened five evenings in the *eek from 7to 5.30; (2) .the subjects of instruction to comprise reading and sratihg, -mathematics, book-keeping, me-, d4nical : drawing, physical geography and deinentaiy science, ,the instruction to be "fiYenby: class-teaching as far as possible ; (3) the school to be under the supervision "f, a teacher to -be appointed specially for the"purpose; (4) a charge of 6d ■&i.!9Jith ,. .jto be, made to each pupil to cover cost of stationery; (5) tem•P9Sry.L provision for instruction offered j ssloUows :* Mr Worthington, occasional i lessons; Messrs W.
