Uncontiidofflar Dissolution Asked. For.
An unconditional dissolution was asked for on' Saturday,- the Premier stating that unless the Governor would grant tho request of Ministers they would resign. His Excellency requested the Premier to furnish him with a memo, embodying' the exact Adews of tho Government. Late on Saturday the request was complied with, and the Vice Regal signature appended to the document. The memo, promises that the Government, conditional on being granted six months', supplies from the 31st March, would endeavour to push the Representation Bill through the Council,' and make it become law , immediately. The boundaries of tho new constituencies should be arranged with the least possible delay, and before the elections could take place, in August or Soptembor at tho latest.
If Ministers succeeded in •• carrying their views into cflect, Parliament) will reassemble about the end • of September. Should1 the Opposition, however, refuse to, grant supply, pr if tho Council mako.any material
alteration in the Representation Act a dissolution will immediately follow, and the elections will take place under tho present Representation Act. Mr Rolleston and a section of the Opposition who strenuously object to tho cost of a second session, talk of opposing supply, and think that the Government, in the face of Friday night's vote ought to resign. Those who think with him in this direction are in ft hopeless minority. The Cabinet meet at 2.30. Ministers are snowing strictest reticence with respect to their intentions, and even decline to give this information to fchoir own supporters.
