THE MIKADO TO-NIGHT.

Messes Williamson, Garner anb Musgbove's Royal Comic Opera Company, which, under the management of Mr E. S. Smythe, has beo.n delighting the public of Now Zealand for the last three months, arrived this morning by the Rotomahana. To enable them to play at Napier on Saturday, the steamer was detained till midnight, and at their last performance the audience was as large and enthusiastic as on the openingl night. The chief attractions q£ the Auckland season, which commences in the Opera House this eveningl; will be Gilbert and Sullivan's more recent operas, " The Mikado " and " lolanthe, or the Peer and the Peri," bath.of which have beon written since the Company's last visit. lYoin. the prospectus of the season, which appears in our advertising columns, it will be seen th^t the Royal Comic Opera Company, reinforced in every department, now numbers sixty performers. The list of principal vocalists includes several old favourites, as" well as some new artistes, notably Miss Alice Barnett, of the Savoy Theatre ; the, chorus and orchestra are admitted to be the best that have ever visited New Zealand; and the scenery is said to comprise some of the, finest specimens of Mr George Gordon's handiwork. Although the expense oi bringing such a large organisation, with its varied impedimenta, to New Zealand must be very heavy, the ordinary Melbourne prices of admission, have been charged through the tour, except at Napier, where the Company only stopped a week, atid the: cro-wded] audiences which the " Mikado " Qftm.pany has everywhere attracted have shown that moderate prices are the best policy,
