Yesterday afternoon a number of the ladies interested in the proposed Kindergarten School assembled at the residence of Mr- Justice Ward to report progress. Mrs Ward presided. The subscription lists produced totted up to £98 ; but as a good' mauy others had not been brought in it is believed that considerably more than that sum has already been collected. The ladies* seemed pleased with the result of their efforts so far, and determined to go on collecting. (Mr 3G. B» Lilly) read a report very kindly fnrnished by Mr Superintendent Thomson, respecting children of poor parents who would be benefitted by the Kindergarten. There arc 419 of such children in the city, 300 being within an easy distance of the V.M.C.A. Rooms, and some of the little ones are reported to be much neglected, others running wild; and the mothers of Borne have no place to leave them while they (the mothers) go out to earn the daily bread. The next meeting was fixed for Wednesday, May 4.

On Tuesday last the Onehunga Town Band gayo a..concert and dance in tho Public Hall, Avondale, which was a decided success. The following is the programme: First part: Overture, "Pirates of Penzance," band; song, " Killarney," Mr Fellows; comic song, "Christine Brown," Mr Neavo; song,. "Watch on the Rhine," Mr Martin; cornet solo, " Tima Con Vari," Mr Hulee ; song, " Never More," Miss Rhodes ; negro song and dance, " Camelia May," Mr Hunt. . Second part: Selection, " Scotch Airs," band; song, " Marseillaise,'"' MiMartin ; violin solo, "Gondeliad," Mr Hulse; song, " Slave's Dream," Mr Follons; comic character song, " Restless Ah Lung Lil" Mr Hunt; grand march, . " Trobojenskie," band ; song, "The Mermaid," Mr Tidmarsh; valse, " Venetia," band. By far the best songs of the, evening were undoubtedly those of Mr Fellows and Miss Rhodes, though the rendition of other items vac in every way creditable. Mr Hunt was awarded an encore for his negro song and dance, and favoured the audience with a very neat jig, .Dancing was kept up with,, vigour until after 2.a.m.
