A BLACKBURN GHOST SCARE.
Gr§4uMlqr,
Consid^iiable commotion ia prevalent at Blackhwrn in lianqftshire, in cpnaequencQ of the qircujatipn o,f » BonsatiQnftl'ghP^t stpry. It was reported that a man who;had seen :the.sgectre lifidI''fallen' a victim to fright. It appears that tho ghqst takes the'guise of a young antl handsome woman both in face and figurej and is.j attired in the kind c f dress at* present in vogue. On Sunday night she is said to have been seen in tho churchyard of Trinity Church, surrounded by a strange lurid light, Ono of the most daring of the young men, watching for the apparition, threw a ginger beer bottle, the, result being that it gave rapid chase.,.... Her first appearance was fhiidS at the npuse of. a young married man named M'Cann, wHo lives in a small court off Moor-street. A young man who lodges at the house, on returning home, found her seated by the fireside apparently in deep thought. H,'e went upstairs to bed, and asked the occupier of the house nex;t morning who she.wa^, and: was laughed at for asking the, question. Qn a aubsequent nighfc M'Cann himself saw the apparition, seated again by the fireside, and ho spoke to it, arid, receiving no answer, began to swear. The ghost then rose to/its feet, and M'Cann fell to the floor in a awoon, and so seriously hurt his shoulder that he baa been attended since by Dr. Hasler. Mr M'Cann avers to the story just given, even after he recovered his senses, and it receives confirmation from some of his friends, who, waiting up at night, alleged that the young woman tapped at tho door, and then sudclcinly disappeared, on one or two occasions. It js aupposetcl, among the credulous of the neighbourhood, that the miscreant is tho ghost pf a young woman who was burnt to cleath about twelve years ago in the district. People of more robust intelligence believe, however, that someone is personating the, ghost.
