Per Taraweua, for Melbourne —B,oooft timber and sundries. For Southern ports : 190 cases oranges, 40 sacks lime, 3 horses, 630 cases meats ; for transhipment to R.M.s. Arawa : 40 cases syrup, 1,160 mats sugar and sundries, and transhipments ex Arawata.
The barque Notero arrived at Lyttelton from Newcastle yesterday.
The briganbine Linda Weber, bound for Oamaru via Mercury Bay, was towed to sea by the s.s. Awhina last evening.
Messrs H. Pi Barber and Co. have chartered the barque Heinrich Bauer to load 571 tons of gum at this port for New York.
The s.s. lona arrived from Tauranga via Mercury Bay this morning early. Pas-3eno-ers:—Messrs Maxwell and Brabant. She°leffc again for Barrier ab 8 a.m.
Thesalariesof harbour-masters in the principal New Zealand ports are as follows: — Otao-o, £400 ; Wellington, £450 ; Auckland, £500'; Napier, £245; Bluff, £400; Lytfcelton, £350.
Vessels in port to-day carried their Sags half-mast high in respect for the memory of Mr J. E. Brews ter, Auckland manager of IST. Z. Sugar Company, whose death is announced elsewhere.
The steam tug Awhina came into collision with one of the tees to the eastward of Queen-street Wharf yesterday afternoon, arid carried away several of the stringers. Repairs are being effected.
'The s.s. Suva has been docked for survey in order to ascertain what repairs she requires. It appears that the Suva came up from Fiji in company with the Arawata on account of representations made by her crew as to leakage. At Suva an inspection of the steamer's bottom was made, and one of the plates under the forehold was found to be dented. ' Temporary repairs were effected, and the steamer came on to Auckland as already related.

The Cunard liner Etruria recently accomplished the fastest passage ever made between Britain and New York. She left Liverpool on February 12 at 3.13 p.m., oa3sed Fastnet (no stoppage having been -nade at Queenstown) February 13 at 5.50 a.m., and arrived at Sandy Hook bar. on •February, 19 at C {\.in,, making:.the passage.
from Liverpool, after adding five hours for difference in time, in 8 days 19hrs 47min, and from Fastneb (60 miles nearer than Queenstown) in 6 days 4hrs 45min. The distances run daily were :— February 13, 413 knots ; 14, 4SO ; 15, 476 ; 16, 468 ; 17, 439; IS, 465 ; 19, 349 : total, 3,108 knots, being an average speed of 19 knots, or 2*2 statute miles per hour.
