The Empire City is, up to the present behind other parts of the colony in taking steps to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. None of the public bodies have yet had the subject under consideration, but it is not improbable thst the Mayor will convene a public meeting to consider the matter within the next few days.
The "Father" of the House,
It has been observed as a somewhat re; markable fact that if Mr Travers be returned for tho Te Aro seat, ho will succeed tho late Mr Macandrew aa father of the Bouse, being thin in the singular position of tho oldest membor in point of experience in the colonial Parliament, and the youngest member as regards date of occupying a new seat. M r Travers was a member of the first Parliament.in 1854, and was also in the laßt Ministry which held oilice prior to the es tabliehment of Responsible Government.
