NORTH MIDLAND RAILWAY.

Ciiristchurch, this day. Mb H. Alan Scott, the local manager for the Midland Railway Company, returned late last night from a trip to tho west coast. A fow words regarding hia movements will Bhow very clearly the manner in which the contractors are begin ning to push ahead with their work. On Saturday last, in company with Messrs B. Gardner, Bourgoyne, and Napier Bell, he made an inspection of the route for a section of the line to beconstructedfromßrunnerton towards tho Feremakau. The country is fairly level, well timbered, and will not be by any moans difficult to work. The contractors have been placed in possession of tho land required for the track, and have accopted a tonder for 2,500 Bleepers. These are to be used in completing a small unfinished section of tho lino made by the Government from Brunnorton. Tho construction of tho whole section of 25 miles has beon divided by the contractor into eleven sub-contracts, tenders for which will be callod forthwith. It ia anticipated that operations will be in full swing all along tho line by February next.
