AUSTRALIAN DRAMATIC NOTES.
Sydney, November 22,
"W. E. Sdekiban and Louiee Davenport returned to Sydney last weok, and commenced a seven weeks' foaron at the Gaiety Theatre last Saturday night, the opening piece being "King Liar." A large and enthusiastic audience assembled to welcome back the popular favourites. They ure fnirly well supported by membors of tho Taylor - Carriiigton Company. Nellie Stowait's farewell benofit at the Theatre Koyal last Friday night was a great success. She delivered a nice little speech, in which ehe thanked tho people and the press with all her heart. The Holloways havo done big business at the Opora House with "Pygmalion and Galatea." It only remained on the boards six nights, and was succeeded on Saturday ni^ht by "Much Ado About Nothing," which drew an enormous house. There are three houses in this city playing the legitimate and one giving us historical drama, which speaks well for Sydney. W. E. Sheridan and Louise Davenport had a great reception last Saturday. The applause waa deafening, find lasted many seconds. Louigo Dayepport was the recipient of several bouquets and baskets of flowers. Preparai ions at the Theatre Royal are going on steadily for the production of the Christmas pantomime, which will be " The Sleeping Beauty," same as given at the Royal in Melbourne in ISBS. The Harleq^ilaede will be as follows : Clown, Ted Faust; pantaloon, Bob Faust; Columbine, Louise Faust; policeman, E. Faust, sen. ; Harlequin, Eugene Faust. The Faust Family closed last Friday at the Gaiety. Next week they play at Newcastle for a few nights, W.A.R,

" Silver Gilt ani Vice Versa " succeeded " Our Regiment" at Her Majesty's Opera House on Saturday evening last. The house was packed, and the two pieces should ei,joy a run of several weeks. ." Human Nature" continues to be very successful at the Theatre Royal. We are given tounderotand tfcat " Human Nature." will be "withdrawn ehortly, and Carrie Swan will make her first appearance in Australia, perhaps in " Cad the Tom-boy," a piece Bhe his been playing lately in America. Three new actresses arrived from London during the week by the new Orient boat Arizola. Their names are Mfsses Huntley, Fairfax, and Darrell, and we .belisvg they have come out under engagement to the T.iumvirate. An immense quantity of scenery, coaturncc, armour, &n., »lso arrived by the same boat for Brough and Boucicault. Frank Clark's Swinging Beauties and Silk Stocking Combination are in full swing, nnd tbo houses increasing each evening. Harry St. Maur, of Williamson, Garner, and Musgrove'a Comedy Company, has commenced an action against h'» pupil and apprentice, Minnie E. Pouys, for breach of agreement. The damages are laid at £200. The Matthew Brothers take part in the Christmas pantomime of " Robinson Crusoe." They .will form the Harlequinade. George Darrell's latest piece, entitled " A New Rush," is to be played at the Bijou during the gay and festive Christmas. The three new actresses we mentioned above have beon engaged by Brough and Boucicault, and are at present playing in " Silver Gilt." Their names are Francos Darrell, Kate Fairfax, and Marie Huntley.
