Riggs, IV Prime, AlM|| bury, Billington, Buckley, and lee. ,;. t v In introducing the business the Mayor H explained that an exceptionally favourable 9 opportunity had presented iteelf for the _ economical cutting down of Richmond, Road. Mr Maguire (City Council contractor for the construction! of the .'Now- =•? Ponsonby reservoir) was in want of earth ~ : for that work, and had therefore expreffl«d{&gj his willingness to cut * down Rich-' » * mond Road at 1b a yard and cart away the; - earth free of charge. More than this, he would not require payment for 6 or 8.-«.;,; months,.before the lapse of which time the incoming rate would be available. 'jThe. . contractor would do the entiie work (5,500 i yards) for £240, of which the City QonnoUpl would pay half, leaving only £120. tQ/be,J.|, borne by Newton. _ ! Cr. Amoury moved, and Cr. Bigg*";'.: seconded, that the work should be authorised, the cost not to exceed-If per yard. ' ;»'■ Cr. Lee protested that the Council .had . not the funds wherewith to undertake such a work, and therefore moved aa an amendment that the Council's former,., d,e^||||| : should be adhered to.'
